Austro-Tai language family

[Relationships with other language families]
W. Schmidt of Austria proposed that the Austronesian and Austroasiatic languages were related to each other, and combined them to form the Austric family, but this has not been scientifically proven. In recent years, P.K. Benedict of the United States has proposed the Austronesian family as a family of languages, arguing that the Austronesian languages were related to the Thai languages through the non-Chinese languages of Cochinchina and Hainan Island (called Kadai languages), and has created the Austro-Tai family, but this is not yet an established theory.
[Reconstruction of the proto-language]
In both phonology and grammar, the Western group has a much more complex system than the Eastern group, and so it has retained an archaic form.

[Thai languages]

... The Kham-Sui language group (Kham, Sui, Mak, Teng, etc.) found in the Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, and Hunan is closely related to the Tai languages. The Tai languages are generally considered to belong to the Sino-Tibetan family, but there is also the Austro-Tai theory, which links them to the Indonesian or Austronesian languages via the Kadai language group (Rati, Laka, Kelao, and Li languages). In addition, there are also cases where the Kham-Sui language group is added to the Tai languages to make it Kham-Tai languages, and the Kadai language group is also included in the classification as Tai-Kadai languages. ...
