Hot Atom

An atom that has higher kinetic energy than an atom in a normal thermal equilibrium state. They can be created by photochemical methods, accelerators, and nuclear recoil, but recoil atoms produced by nuclear recoil in particular are often called hot atoms. Due to their high energy state, hot atoms exhibit unusual behavior, and the field that studies their chemical behavior is called hot atom chemistry.

通常の熱平衡状態にある原子よりも高い運動エネルギーを有する原子．光化学的方法，加速器ならびに原子核反跳などによってつくられるが，とくに原子核反跳により生じた反跳原子をホットアトムとよぶことが多い．ホットアトムはその高いエネルギー状態のため，特異な挙動を示し，その化学的挙動を研究する分野をホットアトム化学(hot atom chemistry)という．
