Japanese: モグラネズミ(土竜鼠) - モグラネズミ（英語表記）mole‐rat

A general term for a mammal of the genus Myospalax in the family Muridae of the order Rodentia, whose body shape resembles that of a mole (order Insectivora). Eight species are found from China to eastern Mongolia and southern Siberia. Body length is 15-27 cm, tail length is 3-7 cm, and weight is 150-250 g. The body is stocky and the limbs are short but powerful. The front paws have long, strong claws, and the third toe is particularly large. There are no ears, and the eyes are very small and almost hidden by the hair. The body hair is long and silky, with no supercilium.

体型がモグラ(食虫目)に似る，齧歯（げつし）目ネズミ科モグラネズミ属Myospalaxの哺乳類の総称。中国からモンゴル東部，シベリア南部にかけて8種が分布する。体長15～27cm，尾長3～7cm，体重150～250g。体はずんぐりとしており，四肢は短いが強力。前足には長くがんじょうなつめがあり，とくに第3指が大きい。耳介はなく，目はきわめて小さく，ほとんど毛に隠れる。体毛は長く絹毛状で，上毛がない。
