A perennial plant of the Droseraceae family, it is a representative carnivorous plant. It is widely distributed throughout Japan, South Asia, and Australia. It grows in sunny fields and acidic mountain wetlands. The plant is reddish overall, and its leaves have long stalks and grow at the base, forming a rosette shape. They are spatula-shaped and have dense reddish-purple glandular hairs on the upper surface, which secrete mucus to catch small insects. From June to August, they produce long flower stalks and several flowers on one side of the raceme. The flowers open one by one from the bottom, and only the ones in bloom always face upward, so the entire inflorescence has the characteristic of being rolled up like a spring (called a cymose inflorescence). The calyx has short glandular hairs on the edges, and the inflorescence is white. The capsules bear many small seeds.
