Japanese: 海幸･山幸 - うみさちやまさち

One of the myths found in the Kojiki and Nihon shoki. Ninigi-no-mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, who descended to rule Ashihara no Nakatsukuni, had three children. The eldest brother Hoderi-no-mikoto and the youngest brother Hoori-no-mikoto (Hohodemi-no-mikoto) were also called Umisachihiko and Yamasachihiko because they excelled at fishing in the sea and hunting in the mountains. The story of these two brothers consists of the conflict between the brothers, Yamasachi's visit to the Sea Shrine, and his marriage to the sea god's daughter.

記紀にみえる神話の一つ。天照大神（あまてらすおおかみ）の孫で葦原中国（あしはらのなかつくに）の支配者として降臨した瓊瓊杵尊（ににぎのみこと）には3子があったが，そのうち長兄火照命（ほでりのみこと）と末弟火遠理命（ほおりのみこと）(穂穂手見命（ほほでみのみこと）)は，それぞれ海の漁山の猟を得意としたので，海幸彦･山幸彦ともよばれた。この2人の物語は，兄弟の葛藤の話と，山幸の海神宮訪問そして海神の女との結婚の話とからなる。
