Japanese: 召放 - めしはなつ

A type of punishment that was mainly used on samurai from the Kamakura period onwards. In the Kamakura Shogunate Law, shoho mainly meant the confiscation of one's land (household), and was also called shogo o shogo, shukou, or kaikei. In the Kamakura period, a samurai's position and land were inseparably linked, and confiscation of land was widely used as the basis of punishment for samurai. There are many crimes for which land was confiscated in the Goseibai Shikimoku and the Supplementary Law. For example, the Goseibai Shikimoku states that for the crime of beating someone, "Samurai shall have their household confiscated, and if they have no land, they shall be exiled, and as for servants and below, they shall be summoned to the police," and for the crime of conspiring to forge a document, "Samurai shall have their land confiscated, and if they have no land, they shall be exiled, and common people shall have a fire mark stamped on their faces."

鎌倉時代以降，おもに武士に対して行われた刑罰の一種。鎌倉幕府法では，召放はもっぱら所領(所帯)の没収を意味し，所領を召す，あるいは収公，改易とも称せられた。鎌倉時代には武士の所職と所領は不可分の関係にあり，所領の没収は武士に対する刑の根幹として広く行われた。御成敗式目ならびに追加法には，所領の没収を科した罪は多い。例えば御成敗式目では，殴人の科について，〈侍においては所帯を没収せらるべし，所領なくば流罪に処すべし，郎従以下に至ってはその身を召禁ぜしむべし〉と定め，また謀書(文書偽造)の罪科について，〈侍においては所領を没収せらるべし，所帯なくば遠流（おんる）に処すべきなり，凡下（ぼんげ）の輩は火印をその面に捺せらるべきなり〉と定めている。
