Medinilla (English spelling)
Medinilla is an evergreen shrub or climbing woody plant of the genus Medinilla in the family Melastomataceae, with over 125 species found in Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. It is often epiphytic and branched. The leaves grow opposite each other on angular stems, are ovate-elliptical or oblong, somewhat hard, dark green and glossy, and have three clearly visible veins. The flowers are pink, have five petals, and grow in panicles that hang down from the ends of the branches. Medinilla magnifica Lindl. is native to the Philippines, and can grow to a height of over 1.5m, branching and spreading horizontally, with the entire plant becoming very bushy.
