Root crown - Konkan

The root cap is made up of parenchyma cells that surround the tip of the root. As they grow outward from the root apical meristem, they protect the root and secrete mucus, but eventually fall off. Many root cap cells contain starch granules, and their movement is thought to be related to the sensing of the direction of gravity in the gravitropic response.

根の先端を包む柔細胞からなる組織で、根端(こんたん)分裂組織から外側へつくられながらそれを保護し、粘液を分泌するが、やがて外方からはがれていく。根冠細胞はデンプン粒を含むものが多く、その移動は屈地(くっち)性の反応において重力の方向の感知と関係すると考えられている。
