Year of death: 1652.4.14 (1652.4.14) Year of birth: 1605 (Keicho 10) He was the founder of the Edo Murayama-za (later the Ichimura-za) in the early Edo period. He had been an actor in Kyoto, but came down to Edo to teach the arts, and in 1634 (Kan'ei 11), he began performing in Kamisakaimachi (Ningyocho). In 1635 (or 1636), he welcomed his younger brother Sakon, who played a female role, and then, with permission from the shogunate, built a turret and renamed it Ichimura-za in 1647.
