1816-1866 Dutch soldiers.
Born January 22, 1816. Arrived in Japan in 1857 on the Yapan (later Kanrin Maru), which had been ordered by the shogunate. Instructed trainees such as Enomoto Takeaki and Katsu Kaishu at the Nagasaki Naval Training School. In 1863, he returned to Japan when the training school closed. Later he became Minister of the Navy, and served as an intermediary for the training of Uchida Masao, Nishi Amane and others when they went to study in the Netherlands. Died February 6, 1866, at the age of 50. Also known as Kattendiecke. Written work: "Days at the Nagasaki Naval Training School."

1816年1月22日生まれ。安政4年(1857)幕府が注文したヤーパン号(のち咸臨(かんりん)丸)で来日。長崎海軍伝習所で榎本武揚(たけあき),勝海舟ら伝習生を教育した。6年伝習所閉鎖のため帰国。のち海相となり,内田正雄,西周(あまね)らのオランダ留学の際,研修の斡旋(あっせん)につとめた。1866年2月6日死去。50歳。カッテンディーケとも。著作に「長崎海軍伝習所の日々」。
