...The influence of the chivalric romance on them cannot be overlooked. After the conquest was completed, the crown demanded one-fifth of the spoils (the Quinto Real) from the conquistadors, and eventually began to reduce the conquistadors' rights by sending officials to establish royal authority over the conquered territories. Naturally, the conquistadors opposed such royal policies, and many, like G. Pizarro in Peru, even openly rebelled.
