The birth force consists of uterine contractions, i.e. labor pains, and abdominal pressure. Uterine contractions during childbirth are called labor pains or simply labor pains, but uterine contractions themselves can be seen both in non-pregnant and pregnant women. Uterine contractions during pregnancy are called pregnancy labor pains, and uterine contractions just before childbirth are called pre-labor pains.
