Tooth decay - caries

Japanese:
Tooth decay - caries
Also called dental caries. A tooth with hard tissue destroyed by the action of oral bacteria, or a disease (dental caries). The enamel is first affected, followed by the dentin, causing pain. In modern civilized countries, 80-90% of people have caries. Recently, it is particularly common among young children and school children, and in Japan, 80% of children aged 3 already have cavities. Early treatment is necessary, and the affected tooth tissue is removed and filled with cement or amalgam, and sometimes prosthetics or tooth extraction (dentures). Prevention is primarily about building strong teeth by paying attention to the nutrition of pregnant women and infants (calcium supplements, etc.), limiting sugar, stopping eating and drinking outside mealtimes, including snacks, encouraging brushing, and applying fluoride (applying 2% sodium fluoride, etc. to the surface of the teeth).
