Keizo Yokokawa - Ousen Keisan

A Zen monk in the mid-Muromachi period. His pen names were Shoho and Hoan. He was from Harima (Hyogo Prefecture). He entered the Jotoku-in temple of Shokoku-ji at the age of four, and at the age of thirteen he succeeded Donchu Doho (1367-1409). Donchu was a monk who excelled in writing and was not obsessed with fame or fortune. Yokokawa also maintained this attitude throughout his life. At the age of 38, he moved to Omi to escape the Onin War, but by this time he had already made a name for himself as a poet and prose monk. After returning to Kyoto at the age of 44, he gained the trust of Ashikaga Yoshimasa, and rose to the rank of Rokuon-in pagoda chief at Shokoku-ji, where he was also in charge of the monks' register. The number of poems and prose he composed until his death at the age of 65 in the second year of the Meiō era is enormous, including "Shohoshu," "Hoanshu," "Shohotoyushu," and "HoanKeikashu."

室町中期の禅僧。号を小補、補庵(ほあん)という。播磨(はりま)（兵庫県）の人。4歳で相国寺(しょうこくじ)常徳院に入り、13歳のとき曇仲道芳(どんちゅうどうほう)（1367―1409）の法を嗣(つ)いだ。曇仲は名利に執せず文筆に優れた僧であった。横川もまたこの態度で一生を貫いた。38歳のとき応仁(おうにん)の乱を避けて近江(おうみ)に移ったが、このころにはすでに詩文僧として名が高まっていた。44歳で帰京後は足利義政(あしかがよしまさ)の信頼を受け、相国寺鹿苑院塔主(ろくおんいんたっす)の位にまでつき僧録をつかさどることもあった。明応(めいおう)2年65歳で没するまで詠作した詩文の数は膨大で、『小補集』『補庵集』『小補東遊集』『補庵京華(けいか)集』等がある。
