Dali [City] - Dali (English spelling)

Japanese: 大理[市] - だいり（英語表記）Da li

A city in western Yunnan, China. Capital of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. Population 460,000 (1994). Economic and cultural center of the prefecture on the south bank of the Erhai Sea. Emperor Wu of Han established Yeyu County in the Erhai region, and in the 8th century Nanzhao ruled and built Taihe City. Longwei Pass and Longshou Pass were established on the north and south of the city, and were also called Xiaguan and Shangguan, respectively. In the 10th century, it became Dali Kingdom, and the Xiaguan area developed into Taihe County after the Yuan Dynasty. In 1913, it was renamed Dali County, and in 1951, it was combined with Fengyi County to form Xiaguan City. After being called Dali City for a time, it became Xiaguan City in 1962, and then Dali City again in 1883.

中国，雲南省西部の市。大理ペー(白)族自治州の主都。人口46万(1994)。洱海（じかい）南岸にある州の経済･文化の中心。漢の武帝は洱海地域に葉楡（ようゆ）県を設置，8世紀南詔が支配し，太和城を築いた。城の南北に竜尾関，竜首関を設置，それぞれ下関，上関と別称された。10世紀には大理国をへ，下関の地域は元以降太和県として発展した。1913年大理県に改称，51年鳳儀県をあわせ下関市とした。一時大理市と称したのち，62年下関市となり，83年再び大理市となった。
