…Inspired by the brave warrior Sadanori Sudou, he launched the Kawakami Shosei Shibai in Sakai in 1891. He moved to Tokyo in the same year and won a reputation for his unique style not found in Kabuki, with his plays such as “The Chronicle of the Disaster of Itagaki-kun” and his monopoly Oppekepe Bushi (sung in Hakata dialect with gestures, wearing a jinbaori and a headband, and a military fan with the Japanese flag on it), which satirized politics and customs. However, realizing that his technique was poor, he went to France in 1893. …
