Mushikari

Japanese: ムシカリ

Also known as the Caprifoliaceae. A deciduous tree of the Caprifoliaceae family. It grows in temperate mountainous areas from Hokkaido to Kyushu and in northeastern Asia. The leaves are opposite, oval, somewhat thick, and wrinkled. In May and June, corymbs appear at the ends of short branches, and many white flowers bloom. Around the inflorescence are decorative flowers like hydrangeas. The decorative flowers are large, white, 2 to 3.5 cm in diameter, and have five deep lobes. The fruits are broadly oval, ripe red in October and November, and later turn black.

オオカメノキとも。スイカズラ科の落葉小高木。北海道〜九州，アジア北東部の温帯の山地にはえる。葉は対生し，卵円形でやや厚く，表面にはしわがある。５〜６月，短枝の先に散房花序を出し，多数の白色の花を開く。花序の周囲にはアジサイのような装飾花がある。装飾花は白色で大きく，径２〜3.5cm，５深裂する。果実は広卵形，10〜11月，赤熟，のち黒色となる。
