Mintaka Pass (English spelling)

Japanese: ミンタカ[峠]（英語表記）Mintaka Pass

A pass near the border crossing of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China. It is located at an altitude of 4,706m in the Agir Mountains, where the Karakoram Mountains meet the Pamir Plateau. The pass is located on the shortest route from Tashkurgan, which flourished as an oasis trading city in the southwestern end of the present-day Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, through Hunza and Gilgit to Kashmir, and has been used as a trade route connecting Central Asia and India since ancient times. Faxian passed through here in the early 5th century, and the first Otani Expedition passed through here in 1902, traveling from Tashkurgan to Srinagar.

パキスタン，アフガニスタン，中国の3国国境交会部近くの峠。標高4706m，カラコルム山脈とパミール高原との接点にあたるアギール山脈中にある。同峠は，現在の新疆ウイグル(維吾爾)自治区南西端のオアシス交易都市として栄えたタシュクルガン(塔什庫爾干)から，フンザ，ギルギットを経てカシミールに至る最短路上に位置し，古くから中央アジアとインドとを結ぶ交易路として利用されてきた。5世紀初めには法顕（ほつけん）がここを通り，1902年に第1回大谷探検隊がここを通ってタシュクルガンからスリーナガルに出ている。
