...The common name for kabuki music, which is used for effects, decoration, background, and accompaniment in kabuki performances, and is generally performed behind a black blind, which is a wooden fence on the lower stage and a black blind hung from a window above. It has other names such as "kuromisu music" and "kage-bayashi" (also abbreviated to "kuromisu" or "kage"). However, in the narrow sense, "kage-bayashi" often means instruments performed behind a black blind for entrance music and detours. "Geza music" is an idiom derived from "geza no ongaku" (music of the geza) from the beginning of the Showa era, and the "hayashikata" (musicians) whose job is to perform this music do not usually refer to it as "geza music."...
