A sailing ship used from the 14th to 17th centuries. Its hull could be described as a large boat. It has two or three masts, and some are rigged with only triangular sails (latin sails) and others with a combination of square sails. It is believed that they were first built in Catalonia, Spain, or Portugal, and were used as exploration ships during the time of Prince Henry the Navigator, who started the Age of Discovery. A ship with a shallow draft was more advantageous for exploring unknown coastlines, and they were used in the fleets of B. Dias, V. da Gama, and C. Columbus.
