Miyamanigouri - Miyamanigouri

Japanese: ミヤマニガウリ - みやまにがうり

An annual vine of the Cucurbitaceae family that grows in deep mountain valleys. The stems are slender and soft, with tendrils that twine around one another. The leaves are egg-shaped and cordate, 5-12cm long, thin, shallowly lobed with 5-7 small teeth. There are both bisexual and male plants. The flowers bloom in August and September, and the male flowers form upright racemes that are numerous, white, and about 5mm in diameter. The female flowers are borne singly at the end of a slender stalk. The corolla has 5 lobes and the lobes are lanceolate. The fruit is a distorted egg shape, about 1cm long, and green, hanging from the end of a slender stalk.
