This memorandum-style work was written by Shunjobo Chogen (Namu Amida Butsu), who was active in the reconstruction of Todaiji Temple in the early Kamakura period, and chronicles the good deeds he performed, including building temples, building Buddha statues, copying sutras, and carrying out Buddhist ceremonies. This work was written by Chogen himself in ink on the back of a scattered letter of paper sent to Todaiji Temple by the Bizen provincial government office in 1203 (Kennin 3), and provides important material for art history and architectural history. It was handed down to the Todaiji temple Kanjinsho and is currently housed at the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo. [Nagamura Makoto]
