A port city in southwestern Morocco, North Africa. It is located north of the mouth of the Sousse River, which flows through the Sousse Plain and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 550,200 (1994), with a municipal population of 505,765 (estimated for 2014). Agricultural products such as fruits and vegetables, and minerals such as lead, zinc, cobalt, molybdenum, and manganese are shipped from the port, and it is also a fishing port. In terms of industry, there are metallurgical plants. On July 1, 1911, under French rule, a German gunboat entered the port, causing tensions in relations between Germany and France, and the Agadir incident occurred.
