Deacon - Josai (English spelling) diaconus; deacon

Japanese: 助祭 - じょさい(英語表記)diaconus; deacon
Deacon - Josai (English spelling) diaconus; deacon
A term used in the Catholic Church. In the Greek Orthodox Church, they are called deacons, and in many Protestant churches, they are called deacons. Currently, they are considered to be the second highest church position after the priest. The original Greek word diakonos means to wait at the table. Stephen and seven others who were selected and ordained to distribute food in place of the apostles (Acts 6) are considered to be the first diakonos in the church, and many other diakonos, including women, are known. Later, as the church system developed and differentiated, they assisted the priest in ceremonies and were especially responsible for managing church property, but due to abuse, their rights were restricted, and now they are merely one step in the process of ordination. However, due to a shortage of priests, etc., their importance has been re-recognized since the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), and they are once again moving in the direction of developing into an independent teaching profession. In particular, there is hope for the revival of married men and women as deacons.
