〘Noun〙① In the Middle Ages, a registered signature was used to verify the authenticity of signatures written on documents. Also, a collection of such signatures. ② In the Edo period, a sample of a seal impression was submitted in advance to a government office, checkpoint, guardhouse, or business partner for the purpose of verifying the authenticity of the seal impression. It is equivalent to today's register of seal certificates. ※Haiku poem, Kiku no Chiri (1706) "The height of old age is when the comb wears out (Jorei) Hand over the signature and leave my love behind (Asou)"
