Nishiki of the capital - Miyako no Nishiki

Japanese:
Nishiki of the capital - Miyako no Nishiki
Year of death: Unknown (Year of death unknown)
Year of birth: Enpo 3 (1675)
A writer of ukiyo-zoshi from the Edo period. Shishido, given the name Yoichi and the pen name Kofu. His grandfather Yoshimasa was employed by Inaba Masanori and became his retainer. Kofu was born in Osaka, and in 1695 he lived in Kyoto with his father, who had become a ronin, but in 1700 he was disowned, possibly for his dissoluteness. He became a Buddhist and adopted the name Tesshu, but later moved to Osaka, and in 1702 he published Genroku Soga Monogatari, written at the urging of Nishizawa Ippu. He wrote Genroku Taiheiki and Okitsu Shiranami in quick succession, and these works show a tendency to promote himself and show off his academic knowledge. However, in the following year he was arrested as a homeless person in Edo and exiled to Satsuma Yamagata Kinzan. In 1704 he attempted to escape but failed, and was transferred to Shikago Kinzan the following year. Here he wrote "Harima Sugihara" and "Sutekofune" and other works. In 1712, he was pardoned and returned to Kamigata, where he wrote "Tosei Chiekan" (1712) and other works, but his later years are unknown. <References> Noma Mitsutatsu, "Modern Writers' Biography," Nakajima Takashi, "The Family of 'Miyako no Nishiki'" (edited by Jinbo Goya, "Edo Literature Research")
