Abbey Theatre - Abbey
A theater in Ireland. The Abbey Theatre. It was founded in 1899 in Dublin by Yeats and Mrs. Gregory as the Irish National Theatre Association. It took the name Abbey Theatre in 1904. As the base of the Irish national theater movement, it launched Irish national writers such as Synge and O'Casey, and toured North America, influencing the American small theater movement. It burned down in 1951, but was rebuilt in 1966.
