Development cooperation

Japanese: 開発協力 - かいはつきょうりょく
Development cooperation

...developed countries provide assistance to developing countries through various means (such as loans and opening up import markets) so that they can take off and enter a process of self-sustaining growth. In the past, the terms economic aid, economic assistance, and development assistance (the latter being newer) were more common, and the terms aid and assistance were often used in development economics literature from after World War II through the 1950s, but since the 1960s, the terms economic co-operation between the North and South or development co-operation have become more common, with the nuance that the donor and the recipient are on an equal footing.
[Economic cooperation systems and mechanisms]
Assistance from developed countries to developing countries is usually provided bilaterally (bilateral assistance), and the DAC (Development Assistance Committee) serves as a forum for the coordination of aid policies among developed countries.
