Japanese: 宇洞ヶ谷横穴 - うとうがやおうけつ

One of Japan's largest caves, dug into the side of a low hill, is located 1.5km west of JR Kakegawa Station in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was discovered in 1964 during construction of the Kakegawa Municipal Sewage Treatment Plant, but the cave itself was destroyed as it could not be preserved in its original state. At the end of a long path of graves, a wall was carved down to the bedrock, a hole 1m wide and just under 2m high was excavated, and a 2.6m high, 4.4m wide and 6.4m deep cellar was carved into the center with a large stone sarcophagus carved out. A bronze mirror, decorative sword, and jewels were found inside the coffin, and weapons, armor, horse equipment, earthenware, and ceramics were found around the coffin, totaling 313 items.

静岡県掛川市，JR掛川駅の西1.5km，低い丘の中腹をうがって営まれた，日本で最大級の横穴。1964年掛川市し尿処理場建設工事中に発見され，横穴本体は原状保存ができず消滅した。長い墓道の突き当りに岩盤まで削った壁を作り，幅1m，高さ2m弱の穴をあけ，その奥に高さ2.6m，幅4.4m，奥行き6.4mの穴蔵をうがち，中央に大きな石棺を削り出した構造であった。棺内に銅鏡，飾大刀，玉類が，棺の周囲に武器･武具，馬具，土器･陶器の類が副葬され，その数313点に及んだ。
