Yuji

Japanese: 楡次 - ゆじ
Yuji

Jinzhong City, central Shanxi Province, China. Located in the southeastern part of the Taiyuan Basin, it is along the Xiao River, a tributary of the Fen River. It has a population of 612,000 (2014). A county was established during the Qin Dynasty, and city status was implemented for the county government in 1954. It was abolished in 1963, but was revived in 1971. In 1999, when the Jinzhong area became a prefecture-level city, it became the city's district. It was a commercial center for the collection and distribution of food and cotton from the Fen River basin, but is now an industrial city with spinning, machinery, chemical, and other factories. It is a transportation hub where three railways diverge: the Tongpu Line (Datong-Huashan), the Shijiazhuang Line (Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan), and the Taijiao Line (Taiyuan-Jiaozuo). The former Yuci County in the suburbs is an agricultural region producing wheat, sorghum, corn, foxtail millet, and cotton.
