Taste blindness - Mimou (English spelling)

Anageusia is a congenital lack of taste for certain taste substances. In humans, phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and similar compounds are known as taste-blinding substances. The majority of people perceive a strong bitterness in a dilute solution of PTC, but there are some people who cannot perceive bitterness at all, and this is called PTC taste blindness. Tastes other than those containing taste-blinding substances are normal, and racial variation is seen, with simple recessive inheritance.

特定の味物質に対する味覚が先天的に欠如している無味覚症で、ヒトの場合には味盲物質としてフェニルチオカルバミド（PTC）およびその類似化合物が知られる。大多数の人はPTCの希薄溶液で強い苦味を感ずるが、まったく苦味を感じない人があり、PTC味盲とよばれる。味盲物質以外の味覚は正常で、人種的な変異がみられ、単純劣性遺伝をする。
