Self-mirror - Mino Kagami

Japanese: 身自鏡 - みのかがみ

This is the autobiography of Tamaki Tosa no Kami Yoshiyasu (1552-1633), a vassal of the Mori clan. It was created in 1617 (Genwa 3). It chronologically describes the events of Yoshiyasu's ancestors and himself from birth to old age. Although there are some discrepancies in the dates, this is an excellent historical document that vividly describes the lives of local samurai who lived through the Sengoku period. In particular, it contains detailed descriptions of the teaching methods and textbooks used in temple education at the time, based on the author's own experiences, making it a valuable educational historical resource. 毛利家の家臣玉木土佐守吉保(1552‐1633)の自叙伝。1617年(元和3)に作られた。吉保の先祖および自身の誕生から老年に至る事跡を年代順に叙述。年月日付には若干の記憶違いがみられるが，戦国時代を生きぬいた地方武士の生活が生き生きと記されている好史料。とくに，著者の体験に基づく，当時の寺院教育の教授法，教科書などが詳しく記されており，教育史料としても貴重である。【勝俣鎮夫】
