A tragedy by French playwright Jean Racine. Five acts, verse. It premiered at the Hôtel de Bourgogne on December 13, 1669. It was published the following year. Based on Roman history from Tacitus' Annals, it portrays a hopeless world swirling with the desire for power, ambition, and blind love, capturing the crisis of the tyrant Nero turning to evil.
