A former town in Miyoshi County in the northwest of Tokushima Prefecture. The southern part is in the lowlands upstream of the Yoshino River, and the northern part is on the southern slope of the Sanuki Mountains. The settlement is mainly located on a small alluvial fan at the southern foot of the mountain, and produces tobacco, wheat, fruit trees, and flowering trees, as well as livestock. It is connected to Kagawa Prefecture by Masuzu Pass. 徳島県北西部,三好郡の旧町。南部は吉野川上流の低地,北部は讃岐(さぬき)山脈の南斜面。集落はおもに南麓の小扇状地にあり,タバコ,麦,果樹,花木を産し,畜産も行う。真鈴(ますず)峠で香川県と結ばれる。2006年3月,三好郡池田町,山城町,井川町,東祖谷山村,西祖谷山村と合併し市制,三好市となる。43.04km2。5290人(2003)。
