A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period and a feudal lord in the early Edo period. The sixth son of Kanenari. His mother was Myoko-ni, the daughter of Hayashi Michiyasu. His childhood name was Senmaru. He served Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In 1584, he inherited Kanayama Castle in Mino Province (Gifu Prefecture), a fief of 70,000 koku, left behind by his elder brother Nagayoshi. On February 6, 1586, he was appointed a chamberlain of the fourth rank and given the surname Hashiba, and in 1592, he was assigned to guard Nagoya Castle in Hizen. After Hideyoshi's death, he served Tokugawa Ieyasu, and in February 1600, he was transferred to the four counties of Sarashina, Minouchi, Hanishina, and Takai in Shinano, and became the lord of Kaizu Castle with a fief of 137,500 koku. In the Battle of Sekigahara in the same year, he joined the eastern Tokugawa forces and was assured of his fief. In the same year, he was transferred to Tsuyama, Mimasaka, and became the founder of the clan with a fief of over 186,000 koku. He went to Kyoto when the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, came to Kyoto, but died suddenly from an overeating. 安土桃山時代の武将,江戸時代前期の大名。可成の6男。母は林通安の娘,妙向尼。幼名千丸。豊臣秀吉に仕える。天正12(1584)年兄長可の遺領美濃国(岐阜県)金山城7万石を継ぐ。同15年2月6日従四位下侍従に叙任,羽柴姓を授けられ,文禄1(1592)年には肥前名護屋城の警護に当たる。秀吉死後は徳川家康に仕え,慶長5(1600)年2月,信濃更科・水内・埴科・高井4郡に移封,海津城主となり13万7500石を領した。同年の関ケ原の戦では徳川方東軍に属し所領を安堵される。同8年美作津山に移封,藩祖となり18万6000石余を領す。3代将軍徳川家光の上洛に際し京都に赴くが,その際,食事が原因で急死。葬地は京都大徳寺三玄院。<参考文献>『津山市史』3巻
