A general term for small mites belonging to the Pyroglyphidae family of the Astigmatidae suborder. The various species of the Dermatophagoides genus, which is part of this family, are distributed widely throughout the world, and their sources of occurrence are diverse, including animal nests and bodies, stored food, medicines, house dust, human skin and hair, and they have been detected in human urine and sputum. Body length is 0.1 to 0.4 mm. The body has a flat, egg-shaped trunk and long, well-developed legs, and the surface of the body has parallel lines resembling fingerprints. 無気門亜目チリダニ科Pyroglyphidaeに属する小さなダニの総称。この科に含まれるヒョウヒダニ属Dermatophagoidesの各種は世界に広く分布し,その発生源も,動物の巣や体,貯蔵食品,医薬品,室内塵,ヒトの皮膚や頭髪に見いだされたり,人尿や喀痰(かくたん)に検出されたり多岐にわたる。体長0.1~0.4mm。体は扁平で卵形の胴部と長くよく発達した脚を有し,体表には指紋状の平行線紋理を有する。
