A general term for the larvae of insects that live in rivers in the Ina region of Nagano Prefecture. It refers to the larvae of stoneflies, mayflies, caddisflies, etc., and sometimes includes the larvae of dragonflies, etc. These are caught in the winter and enjoyed as tsukudani.
