Mineokayama

Japanese: 嶺岡山 - みねおかやま

Located in Maruyama-cho, Awa-gun, southern Chiba Prefecture, this mountain is part of the Mineoka Mountains. It is 361m above sea level. It is also called Mineoka Asama-san, and the area is designated as a prefectural natural park of the Mineoka Mountains. The mountain is based on Mesozoic sandstone and slate, with serpentine intruding into it. Landslides can be seen in parts of the southern slope, where clay layers with serpentine as the parent rock have developed. The coastal islands known as Awa Matsushima are an extension of the Mineoka Mountains. During the Sengoku period, the area was a horse ranch for the Satomi clan, but during the Edo period it became Mineoka Ranch, which was directly controlled by the shogunate. Mineoka Ranch spanned Nagasa, Taira, and Asai counties, and was divided into five ranches: Nishiichi Ranch, Nishini Ranch, Higashikami Ranch, Higashishimo Ranch, and Hashiraki Ranch.

千葉県南部，安房郡丸山町にあり，嶺岡山地に属する山。標高361m。嶺岡浅間山ともいわれ，一帯は嶺岡山系県立自然公園に指定されている。山体は中生代の砂岩，粘板岩を基盤とし，これに蛇紋岩が貫入している。蛇紋岩を母岩とした粘土層が発達した南斜面の一部では地すべり現象がみられる。安房松島といわれる海岸の島々は嶺岡山地の延長。　一帯は戦国時代には里見氏の馬牧であったが，江戸時代に幕府直轄の嶺岡牧となった。嶺岡牧は長狭（ながさ）郡，平郡，朝夷（あさい）郡にまたがり，西一牧，西二牧，東上牧，東下牧，柱木牧の5牧に分かれていた。
