A village in Hiraka County, southern Akita Prefecture. Population 6,108 (1995). It is located in the fertile alluvial lowlands on the east bank of the Omono River, in the center of the Yokote Basin, west of Yokote City. 70% of the village's land is cultivated, most of which is paddy fields, resulting in a high rice yield per unit area. Since the 1970s, hops, tobacco, and Japanese honewort have also been cultivated. The Tanemori area in the east has a lot of peatland, and the excavated peat is called "nekko" and is used as fuel.
