Japanese: 美祢[市] - みね

A city in western Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the middle and upper reaches of the Asa River and the central Nagato Mountains. The Omine coalfield (Yamaguchi coalfield) was developed at the end of the 19th century, and the Navy Ministry's Coal Mining Department was established in 1904, after which it developed as a mining town. Limestone is produced mainly in Isa, and there is a cement factory. The Mine Line and Chugoku Expressway run through the city. Marble is produced in Ofuku in the north, and there is a radioactive Ofuku Onsen hot spring. In March 2008, the towns of Bito and Akiyoshi in Mine County were incorporated. 472.64 ^km2 . Population: 28,630 (2010).

山口県西部の市。1954年市制。厚狭(あさ)川中・上流域と長門山地中部を占める。19世紀末に大嶺炭田（山口炭田）が開発され，1904年海軍省採炭部が置かれてから鉱業町として発展した。伊佐を中心に石灰岩を産出，セメント工場がある。美祢線，中国自動車道が通じる。北部の於福(おふく)では大理石を産し，放射能泉の於福温泉がある。2008年３月美祢郡美東町，秋芳町を編入。472.64km²。２万8630人（2010）。
