The third son of Minamoto Tameyoshi. His base was in Shinda-go, Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture). He was in conflict with Minamoto no Yoritomo, and in 1183 he raised an army together with Ashikaga Tadatsuna, but was defeated in a surprise attack by Oyama Tomomasa. After that, he sought refuge with Minamoto no Yoshinaka, and after Yoshinaka's defeat and death, he fled to Ise (Mie Prefecture), where he was killed in battle on May 4, 1211.
