Born on September 20, 1926. Won the bantamweight title at the All Japan Championships in 1951. Won the bantamweight freestyle title at the Helsinki Olympics the following year, becoming Japan's first postwar gold medalist. He trained future wrestlers such as Shozo Sasahara.
