Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.
The top diversified chemical company in Japan and the fifth largest in the world. Founded in 1934 as Nippon Tar Industries. In 1950, the company was split into three companies: Asahi Glass (glass) and Shinko Rayon (now Mitsubishi Rayon) due to the Law Concerning the Elimination of Concentration. In 1952, the company changed its name from Mitsubishi Kasei Industries to Mitsubishi Kasei. It is a representative diversified chemical company that started out in coal distillation and expanded into dyes, fertilizers, synthetic resins, etc., and became the top diversified chemical manufacturer. It is oriented towards fine chemicals and also focuses on pharmaceuticals. In October 1994, it merged with Mitsubishi Yuka to assume its current name. In October 1999, it merged with Tokyo Tanabe Seiyaku (established in 1921) and separated the pharmaceutical division to establish Mitsubishi Tokyo Pharma. In 2005, through a stock transfer, it established Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, a joint holding company with Mitsubishi Wellpharma.

総合化学で国内トップ,世界5位の会社。1934年日本タール工業として設立。1950年集中排除法により,旭硝子(ガラス),新光レイヨン(現三菱レイヨン)とに3分割された。1952年三菱化成工業から三菱化成へ改称。石炭乾留を起点に染料,肥料,合成樹脂などに発展した代表的総合化学工業会社で,総合化学メーカーのトップとなった。ファインケミカルを志向し,医薬品にも注力。1994年10月三菱油化と合併し現社名。1999年10月,東京田辺製薬(1921年設立)と合併,医薬品部門を分離して三菱東京製薬を設立。2005年株式移転により,三菱ウェルファーマと共同持株会社三菱ケミカルホールディングスを設立。
