...Most of the varieties introduced in Japan are American, with some from France, Italy, and Spain. There are not many sweet onions, but there are the Kisakikake group, which was developed by acclimatizing Spanish and American varieties, and the Shonan Red, which was selected from American varieties. Kisakikake is a mid-season variety that forms a head in a day length of about 13 hours, and does not bolt or split much.
