Around 378 BC -? Greek historian born on the island of Chios. A disciple of Isocrates, he had close ties with the Macedonian royal family. After the death of Alexander the Great, he went into exile in Egypt. His major works include the 12-volume History of Greece, which follows on from Thucydides and covers the period from 411 to 394 BC, and the 58-volume Life of Philip, a sort of world history centered on the achievements of Philip II, but only fragments of both remain.
