Japanese: 三菱銀行[株] - みつびしぎんこう

Founded in 1919, it took over the business of the Mitsubishi Goshi Kaisha Banking Division (established in 1895). It developed as the core financial institution of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu, merging Morimura, Kanehara, Tokyo Nakano and Daihyaku banks after 1929. It was renamed Chiyoda Bank in 1948, and reverted to its former name in 1953. As the core of the Mitsubishi Group, it grew into one of Japan's leading banks by providing funds to large companies in the group. Even during the bubble economy, it was cautious about other banks' aggressive lending, so it suffered relatively little damage even after the bubble collapsed. However, it was required to respond to economic restructuring and the Japanese version of the financial big bang, and merged with the Bank of Tokyo in 1996 to become the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. In 2006, it merged with UFJ Bank to become the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.

三菱合資会社銀行部（1895年発足）の事業を継承し1919年設立。三菱財閥の中枢金融機関として発展し，1929年以後森村，金原，東京中野，第百の各銀行を合併。1948年千代田銀行と改称，1953年旧称に復帰。三菱グループの要として，同系列の大企業への資金供給などで日本を代表する銀行へと成長。バブル経済時でも他行の積極融資に対して慎重だったためバブル経済破綻後も比較的損害は少ないほうだった。しかし，経済構造改革や日本版金融ビッグバンなどへの対応が求められ，1996年東京銀行と合併し，東京三菱銀行となる。2006年UFJ銀行と合併し，三菱東京UFJ銀行となる。
