An old French unit of price. The subdivisions were 1 livre = 20 sou (or sol), and 1 sou = 12 deniers. They correspond to the medieval Latin units of price, libra, solidus, and denarius, respectively. Since the Middle Ages, two systems coexisted: the Paris system livre parisis and the Tours system livre tournois, which was worth four-fifths the Paris system, but a royal decree in 1667 unified them into the Tours system.
