Meaning "resident." Refers to slave farmers who live on the fazendas of Brazil, especially on the large sugar plantations in the northeast. Historically, it appeared in the 17th and 18th centuries, during the establishment and development of the sugar plantations (engenhos) based on slave labor in the northeast of Brazil. In a farm society with the farmer at the top and the slaves at the bottom, the lavradores and moradores made up the main middle class in the agricultural production sector. The lavradores were white colonists (often the sons or brothers of the farmer) who did not have the qualifications or funds to obtain the land allotted for colonization (sesmaría) and build a sugar factory, but instead rented land on the farm and cultivated sugar cane as sharecroppers (sharecroppers).

〈居住者〉の意。ブラジルのファゼンダ，とくに北東部のサトウキビ大農場で農場内に居住する隷農を指す。歴史的には，17,18世紀，ブラジルの北東部の奴隷労働に基づく砂糖農園(エンジェーニョ)の成立，発展の過程で現れる。農場主を頂点とし，奴隷を底辺として構成される農場社会にあって，農業生産部門では，ラブラドールlavradorとモラドールは，主要な中間層を構成した。ラブラドールは，植民のための分与地(セズマリア)を入手し製糖場を建設するだけの資格または資金のない白人植民者(農場主の子息や兄弟であることが多い)で，農場内で借地しサトウキビ栽培を行う刈分農(分益農)である。
