This was a distinguished family that produced many capable politicians in the Ottoman Empire from the mid-17th century to the early 18th century. It is said that their ancestors were either Bosnian or Albanian. Köprülü Mehmet Pasha, who became Sadrazam in 1656, made the wise decision to clean up the military and punish corrupt officials. His sons Ahmet and Mustafa, and grandson Numan also played active roles as politicians.
