A town in Inashiki County, occupying the plateau southwest of Lake Kasumigaura in southern Ibaraki Prefecture. Ami, the center of the town, was the site of the Lake Kasumigaura Naval Air Corps in 1921, and was known nationwide as the Yoka Ren (Air Training School) during World War II. Even today, the Self-Defense Forces' Weapons School is still there. An industrial park has been developed, and manufacturing is thriving. Watermelons are produced here. The Ken-O Expressway runs through the town. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Area 71.40 km2 . Population 47,940 (2010).
